Star Ocean Beckons To Be Played

Ever since Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom released back in May, I've was happy to see that no new must-have games were announced. I wanted to dive into TotK without distraction or haste and fully explore it. I've been enjoying it off and on, but now a recently revealed forthcoming JRPG grabbed my attention as a must-play.

Square Enix recently showcased Star Ocean: The Second Story R. Now I've got the itch again to buy a new awesome looking game, yet I'm still engrossed in TotK. To make things "worse", my backlog keeps whispering to me, "Octopath Traveler II..."

I air-quoted "worse" because having too many great games to play is a "good problem." That said, I kind of wish game developers would slow down on the output of so many great games. I want to engage them all but lack the time. That means I should play only the best of the best, which should help me keep savoring TotK. Yet I can't help feeling like I might miss out on other really nice titles.

I know how to prioritize my time towards grinding through JRPGs or knocking out some of my backlog. But then other things I need or want to spend time on must wait. Lately my focus has been more on the tech subject instead of gaming. But the biggest thing capturing my mind is an ongoing personal project.

For the past month, I've been designing and building a bathroom addition for our house. It's putting all my skills to the test while also causing me to learn new ones. As of now, I've only completed the foundation, floor, and two plumbing drain line tie-ins and stub-ups.

Anyways, there's always something else that pulls me from gaming; let's just call it "adulting" or life in general. My so-called dilemma is nothing new. So many good games, so little time. As always, I'll manage.

But have you seen the gameplay trailer for Star Ocean though? Wow! The blend of pixel art and modern 3D graphics looks fantastic. And the sci-fi theme mixed with traditional JRPG elements is awesome. It reminds me of FFVI or FFVII. How am I going to fit this into my schedule?

My plan is to ask for the game as a Christmas gift this year, so I wouldn't get it until late 2023. I'd have until then to finish enjoying TotK, which seems reasonable; I can finish the main quests in that time. But what about Octopath II and the other super JRPGs on my backlog, shouldn't I play them before Star Ocean?

Decisions. If this is my worst problem, then I'm blessed far more than I deserve. We'll see what happens.
